How long should your furniture last?

Furniture being on the expensive side you’d want to make sure you’re buying for reasons such as the longevity - durability and the stylish design for it.

The life expectancy of furniture can rage anywhere between 5 years and 20 years! – You might think 20 years is a dramatic number but there are people in your street who have a  piece of furniture they grew up with which is might even be older than them. The longevity of furniture depends on different factors such as – Type of wood used and the usage of that piece of furniture. For example;

  • Bed frames 15-20 years
  • Chest drawers 10-20 years
  • Dressing tables 5-10 years
  • Coffee tables 5-20 years

 But the durability of a piece of furniture depends on the usage and the type of wood it was made from. There are different types of woods furniture is made of which comes from different trees such as,

  1. Rose wood
  2. Mango wood
  3. Mahogany wood
  4. Acacia
  5. Mindi wood
  6. Teak wood

 

Rose wood are native to Brazil , Africa and India – Rose wood furniture lives longer and it is extremely durable with minimal maintenance. They can reach a height of 20m and requires occasional polishing.
